14 Reasons Lingerie Makes Us Crazy

Part 2 of Our Series on Lingerie for the Rest of Us

Hey lingerie makers!  Take note of what makes us crazy about lingerie and please make things that work for us.

Here are the reasons why we don’t always rush to “wrap” ourselves.

1.  It’s uncomfortable.  Really uncomfortable.

2.  If it’s effective, it stays on for about 3.2 minutes. Or, as @blogdangerously said, Once I have it on it only lasts 10 seconds before I’m taking it off again!

3.  Its designed for women that are a size 0…squishing out of panties is not sexy…ever. @maniacalmom

4.  It never looks like it looks in the picture on REAL people.

5.  It never looks as good on me as it does on the VS models.  @rntammyp

6. Once you are old enough and confident enough to truly enjoy the powers of lingerie? It no longer fits. @ooph

7. Because lingerie assumes your boobs are at the location they’re supposed to be at. @thenextmartha

8. Because the lingerie models are freaks of nature w/perfect bodies. Either that or they’re air-brushed to high heaven. @nuckingfutsmama

9.  B/c it’s not designed right! If I try to lay on my side, boobs pop out! Drives me bonkers, and makes it hard to look sexy!! @thewombwarrior

10. I get cold!!!! I’d love to wear it more, but it seems like it only works in the summer…. @sheilagregoire

11. I think because we are worried about the perceptions of ourselves our men see, and also a little streak of puritan worry. @smoph

12. It’s not created for women who have curves – post baby – or sag – post baby – or stretch marks – post baby. Ever see any Victoria’s Secret models who fit that bill?  How about a line called “Real Body” that is for, ummm, real bodies.  Hmmm….. I think I’ll trademark that.

13.  It looks okay when you are standing in one position and one position only.

14.  It’s like a costume and completely impractical.  It takes a great deal of effort in an already busy life.  (It’s not easy like so many other things, not that easy is always good, mind you.)

Have any more reasons?

    Let’s see….

There’s something wrong with less than a square foot of fabric, seen on me by one person for about 3 seconds before it comes off, costing more than an entire outfit.

And believe it or not, I was saying that even before I had a “mommy body”.

I think we must change our mind-set about this. Instead of complaining about how our bodies don’t look or not longer look good in lingerie/clothing, why don’t we resolve the origin of the problem? Are you overweight? Loose those extra pounds. Do you have flab skin? Eat better foods and do weight training to tone up your body. Your skin will thank you. Had kids? sagging breasts is a reality we don’t love…let’s be honest, it takes a lot of motivation, exercise, and sometimes cosmetic enhancement to bring your pre-baby body back. That’s the reality. There are amazing lingerie brands out there for all kinds of body, for all kinds of lifestyle, it’s just a matter of finding the ones that fit your present body shape perfect. You have to do your research. They do exist. Don’t focus if the lingerie on that photoshopped model will never look the same on you, because it will not. Instead, focus on the product itself, focus on your body type and find the brands and styles that makes you feel best and look good on you. I’m a mom, I’m in my mid thirties. The moment I changed my mind-set and stopped complaining that my clothing were not fitting the way it was before having a baby and decided to take action, everything changed. I lost the extra pounds, I toned up my body/skin, and a pair of jeans that I owned when I was 25 fits me again and to be honest, I think I look better now than when I was in my 20′s. It was a matter of taking action, that’s is. So, find a mentor, get fit, eat better, have moderation, don’t stress over stupid things, be thankful, be happy. :-)

    Melina,
You have a lot of good points. We are going to explore which brands to look at. So much of this is about how you wear the clothes, I mean scraps of materials…

I find it rather amusing that the less fabric there is, the more expensive it is.

I wonder why it is so important but aren’t supposed to be worn when you sleep?

I find it odd that lingerie companies assume that if we’re medium on top, we’re medium on bottom, and vice versa.
Also, not all of us have fake or perky boobs that stay ‘right there’ so the reality looks like the taped and/or air-brushed pic. How about some support for the girls, people!
