A Tale of Discovery and Friendship
For a recent birthday, some friends threw me a surprise party, a simple all girls dinner. There was a goody bag, and in it, a gift certificate for a sports bra. Now, some people would take this as insulting, but I did not. I am sorely in need to some serious support in this department. Plus, you know you have true friends if they are willing to give you real help. On my birthday, I took this gc to the store, and the woman there fit me in a sports bra that felt so good that it didn’t even feel like I was wearing a bra. I was ecstatic. Who would have thought that a bra could make me so happy? I didn’t move in this thing, and being busty with a small circumference, it was liberating. It almost felt like I was small-chested, which I assure you I am not. However, as I left the store, not bouncing, I exclaimed to the sales woman over my left shoulder, “You’ve changed my life!” And she had.
Fast forward a week. I am walking on the city’s main sports trail. Now, of course, I am a bra connoiseur – after all, I own three amazing life-changing sports bras. These things are so good and strong and supportive that they are rated by barbel. Plus, when I wear them, I look thinner, because they COMPRESS my chest (which is what I need so I can jump rope). So, as I am walking, I notice all of the women that are jogging towards me. Some of the younger women are bouncing all over the place. I am tempted to say, “oh honey, get yourself one of these bras. You are young. Invest in your chest.” It is, after all, one of the most important things you can take care of.

Are you permitted to say what brand it was?
Yup, you’ve definitely got to invest in your bras! I go to a store in NYC where they actually fit me for them. They’re very professional, and show you how to adjust your straps, sizing, etc. for the best look/comfort. I don’t even care that it’s not my ob-gyn handling my breasts.
Have a great weekend,
Lily
Grim Kitty,
I sent you a side email with the name of the brand…
Lily,
Yes, you get it. Unfortunately, I was in my early 40s when I realized this.

A girlfriend just asked me the other day if I would spend $60 on a bra . . .and of course I said “yes”. I’ve learned that some things are worth paying the price, and a good bra is one of them!
Oh yes, we all need true friends like that who will be so honest and straightforward–and love us just the way we are. My friends would be more inclined to get me a GC for a Wonder Bra, though!! (Definitely not much going on up top for me!)
Sharon,
Yes, true friends are great. Let me know if you ever get that WB… That’s very funny….

I totally am with you Sarah – as a big chested girl myself, it is a chore. Better than the alternative though.
Very interesting article, thanks. Keep up the good work.
I’m jumping the gun a bit and visiting from SITS! Happy SITS day! What a great idea for a blog! Love it! I need to think about getting some good support also! LOL
Hi! Stopping by from sits!
I truly believe you need to evolve to a magazine! Of course keeping your wonderful blog here as well. I have loved the info and the articles. Despite my surprise on how candid you are. I wish I could have had this as a teenager. A lot of embarrassing Mother-daughter topics would have been avoided! LOL!
Thanks!
As a woman with two steadfast generals attached to me everyday I appreciate this post! I found a wonderful bra store just after a gave birth to my son, and now I am happily waiting to hit the store again as soon as start losing this weight!
Stopping by from SITS, and yes! Good underwear can make a world of difference. If I’m wearing nice underwear, even though no one sees it, it puts a spring in my step.
Found you via SITS today, congrats on your feature day! What a great site! The article here was really interesting too, a good sports bra is ESSENTIAL! Oh I can’t tell you how many I’ve had that were not at all good.
Great site, keep up the work ladies!
Can you please share the band name with me also? I am large chested and right now I am wearing 2 sports bras when I exercise and I still will not attempt jumping jacks. I don’t need to lose anymore “height” than I already have.
Thanks for sharing! Stopping by from SITS!

Jessica,
The name of the brand is Title Nine. They have retail stores and a catalog. I hope that helps. Thanks for stopping by.
Sarah
Rheanna,
Thanks for the compliment. Yes, there is a lot of embarrassing stuff in here. There is a lot of information I could have used earlier in my life…
Thanks for visiting.
Sarah
I have to say that I am little around too, but still very chesty and I was having a miserable time finding a bra to support the old girls. I went and had a professional fitting, and it seriously changed my life. And, no. I am not kidding! When you look better, you feel better, you know?! When I used to train people at the gym, I would advise my bustier clients to wear a regular bra underneath their sports bra for better support, but if you have found a fabulous sports bra . . . do tell! Am loving your site BTW.
Thanks for the comment, Annie. Yes, these things CAN change your life… name of the store is Title Nine. I hope that works. I am personally a 4 barbel kind of girl.
Sincerely yours,
Sarah
It pains me to see women with lousy sports bras and their boobs flapping around while working out. It can’t be comfortable. I’m always willing to spend a little extra money so that I can have support and an excellent work out.
Ohhhh, I need new bras SO BADLY. You’ve sold me: Invest in your chest. Okay, fine. I’ll stop putting it off. I won’t even whine about how expensive bras are. I’ll just DO IT.
Yes! I agree!
Even when you’re not working out, you should get bras with excellent support. It looks and feels SO much better! Get yourself fitted, because the bra that worked for you when you were 18, isn’t gonna work for you anymore!
As a busty gal, I’d like to know the name of the brand as well! I desperately need a good sports bra that actually works!!
Love the blog – great, great advice. Happy SITS day!
Count me in the Big Boob Brigade. I would love to know the brand as well. I have a very hard time finding sports bras to stop the bouncing. I’ve thought of using duct tape to keep myself from getting black eyes on the treadmill.
Oh please send me the name too! I’m also one of those 2 bra wearing workout women – ugh!
Thanks for being with SITS!!
I hate sports bras, but I am nursing so I definitely need to wear one when I run. Thanks for reminding me to take care of them. I don’t want to be one of those 20-somethings bouncing all over the place!
Exercising is a lot easier when you’re comfortable! Every woman should find a good sports bra for when they work out!
Absolutely, absolutely agree. I wear a size zero clothes, and after pregnancy went up to a size 30G bra. 30G! Talk about being top heavy. I didn’t know that existed. I just bought a good sports bra and it changed my life.
