Another Never-Talked-About Female Subject
I’m interested in finding out if this has happened to you. A lot of women I know and have asked, and I mean the VAST majority of women I have questioned, have had the following happen to them:
With each pregnancy, their feet (mine included) have grown about 1/2 a size – per pregnancy (repeated for emphasis). For good. So, if you start at an 8, after 4 pregnancies, your Nikes are now a size 10.
Of the Anonymous8, this happened to about 7 of us. Two pregnancies, one foot size. HOW COME NO ONE TALKS ABOUT THIS?
You know that great shoe wardrobe you acquired pre-pregnancy? Useless once the baby comes. (Then again, the days of wearing heels decrease.)
I wonder if this happened to you. Let us know. I’ve been snooping around online and the results seem pretty mixed. Some women’s feet sizes don’t change – many do.
Any thoughts?

Mine have stayed the same size (only one kiddo so far). My boss’ feet actually shrunk a size (two kids). I’m interested in seeing what you guys find out!
This totally happened to me! With my first child, my feet grew a half size. I kept waiting for them to go down and they never did. I’m now 11 weeks pregnant with my second and you have made me realize that they are going to grow again. So not cool!
My feet didn’t grow during the pregnancy with my daughter. Being a size 11, I was terrified that they would. Thank goodness they didn’t!! It’s hard enough to find shoes to fit my feet as it is!!
So Michell Duggars must be size 17 or 18 by now??
Whilst I’ve never been pregnant myself, I have heard of this happening after the first pregnancy but I hadn’t heard of it happening after every one.
Biologically, it stands to reason – while pregnant, you’re carrying more weight, and your centre of gravity changes. In order to maintain balance, your feet would have to change too.
Jonah,
That is pretty funny….

Mine absolutely did, which is horrible because I was already wearing an 11 wide….UGH….the shoes I wore before having my daughter 9 weeks ago no longer fit. I bought a pair of mens size 10 sneakers a few weeks ago. They really should prepare women for this!!
Funny, and I guess I never put the two together, but “Ya, I think my feet did grow!” I have only experienced one pregnancy, so the half size difference I just attributed to aging. My feet were VERY small, size 51/2, so having a size 6 now makes it easier to find nice shoes in my size. Like Aussie Locust said, I guess I needed a little more turned up at the ground end to stay vertical!
Mine grew a whole size. I hope they don’t keep doing that. I went from a 10 to an 11. I really don’t want to have size 12 feet if I have another baby.
After 3 kids my shoe is about 1 size bigger, a 7 1/2. I had some shoes from my 20′s that were between a 6 and a 7, while pregnant I barely fit in anything. For a few years after having the kids I wore an 8. Now that it’s been several years I’m more comfortable in a 7 1/2 (some of my 8′s are just too big).
I wonder if foot growing has anything to do with how fast you have the babies. I mean if you spread them out every 2 or 3 years maybe it doesn’t affect your feet as much as say having a child ever 18 months? I had 3 kids in 3 years, it could play into it.
I wore a 9 before kids. I had two kids and now wear an 11. Not cool. They are still very narrow (which is awesome when they’re long, makes them look like clown feet) so it isn’t just a broadening of the base, so to speak.
Yep! I started at a 7 and grew a half size with each pregnancy!
Nooo! I already have big lady feet.. I don’t need them to get any bigger!!
From a 7 1/2 to a 9 in 2 pregnancies. Went back to 8 1/2 after I lost a lot of weight, but never any smaller than that.
Mine grew. It has to do with the amount of Relaxin your body puts out I think.
hmmm – I’ve had 2 children, but my feet are exactly the same. Maybe I’m the exception?
My wife and I don’t have kids yet, but I did just recently hear a woman talk about this the other day and it caught my attention. Geez, women do make great sacrifice to bring kids into this world. It’s like they are committing their whole bodies.
My shoe size went up 1/2 a size, but I can’t remember if it was the first pregnancy or the second. Also, I grew almost 2 inches in height with the first.
My shoe size definitely went up a half a size after having the baby..still there 5 years later. My feet were already different sizes, so it is even harder now..the bigger the feet, the harder to find shoes I feel.
My feet started at a size 8 and are now a size 9!! It’s been five weeks since my daughter was born and I still can’t fit into any of my old shoes……I’m thinking that this may be a permanent change : (
I have 4 kiddos. My feet have grown but only 1/2 to 1 full shoe size depending on the style of shoe.
My feet got bigger after my pregnancy. I waited for about three months hoping they would go down that half size, but eventually had to give in and donate my cute heels to my best friend. This happened to my mom as well, but only after the first pregnancy. The bigger foot doesn’t bother me as much as the ill-fitting shoe.

One advantage of adoption…no changing foot or clothing sizes.
Mine stayed the same size but my mothers feet grew from a 5 to a 7 with 3 pregnancies.
