How to Make Her Melt
Ever at a loss for good things to say? We’re here to help.
We came up with this topic after a conversation with a friend that we detailed in yesterday’s post, Sexy Words and Bathrooms. This has been one of my favorite kinds of projects. It’s research-based, but not academic. It gives me an excuse to ask all of my friends a question. And the answers are as varied as the women who give them. Some of the women were stumped. Others responded, “It depends on the situation.” Overall, there were some common themes, and here they are…
1. “You are beautiful.” And mean it. Simple. Pure. The BEST.
2. “I cleaned the bathrooms.” (I am melting just typing this. Read why in the post Sexy Words and Bathrooms.) This one is a shocker, don’t you think?
3. “We’re going out. I have a surprise evening planned. Be ready at 7.”
4. “Yes dear.” Genuine, no sarcastic tone, please. This is the direct result from a study done by Gottman that we discussed in last week’s post, The Secret to a Happy Marriage.
5. “I’m taking you away for our anniversary. Want to go to _______ or ________?”
6. “The best thing my significant other has said to me came after I asked him to stop making fun of me (we have banter-filled conversations daily). He replied, ‘As soon as it stops being the most fun I’ve ever had.’ This was the sexiest, best thing he could have said to me because it reminded me how much fun I am and how much he enjoys me for being ME.” From Symbie
7. “I’d be happy to,” (and then smile) when she asks you to do something. It’s along the same lines of “Yes Dear.”
8. “How about if I take care of the kids some time this week so you can go out with your friends?” Wow! That one would be nice.
9. “I missed you today.” Mmmmmm….. Very nice.
10. “I love you.” This is great especially when it’s unexpected and out of the blue.
11. “I don’t know how you do everything you do.” It says that he thinks you are a marvel.
12. “I love the way you… (fill in the blank)”
13. “The sexiest thing my hubby says to me is ‘I cooked dinner tonight.’ A huge load is lifted from my shoulders and I can’t help but love him more than ever.” From Karen at etsynativesky.
14. “Great dinner tonight. How about if I take care of the dishes?” (Again, this makes me melt as I type it. There’s acknowledgment of effort and a job well done. Plus, he’s giving you a break!)
So, guys, have you got an idea what women like to hear? My read on this is that they like to hear that they are loved and beautiful and that you are doing something to make their life a little easier. You are taking care of them. Ladies, feel free to add to this one.
Ladies, it’s our turn to hear from the men next. Our next post will be about what men love to hear from their wives.

I’m pregnant so when I hear my husband say to my son “C’mere Jamie so Dad can change your poopy pants”
…well, that’s good stuff too.
Number 3. A surprise outing.
The Husband did that for me once, and I swooned. Literally swooned.
His words, “Don’t worry about dinner, I’m taking you out. And it’s a surprise.” made me swoon.
All of these are so true Sarah.
I’m lucky to have a man who does so many of these. Yay!
I like #11 – I don’t know how you do everything you do. My husband says this one to me pretty often, and it’s nice, because he recognizes how hard I work.
One that friends have told me but my husband says too rarely… “You’re a great mom!” When your school-age child has been throwing drama fits and your baby has been unaccountably fussy, this is exactly what a frazzled mom needs.
Those are all nice things to say, but my heart melts when my husband says, “I’ll take care of the baby, go take a nap”. I jump with joy, he does not have to tell me twice. I run for our bedroom and fall in love all over again with my pillow and blanket.
The fine print about these awesome things to say to your beloved:
Make sure and mean them.
Awesome post

I actually love it when I’m acknowledged for keeping the balls in the air, and easily excised when I drop one. I like it best if he doesn’t say ” I emptied the dishwasher, r cleaned the kitchen up” but just does it! Then I have the opportunity to acknowledge him before he asks for it!
Love your site… and this is a great post!
When we were dating my husband would tell me how beautiful I am on a regular basis and he always said it with awe, like he was truly amazed at my beauty and really meant it, that always made me feel like I was on top of the world! We have been married for 2 years and have lost some of that flame already so I haven’t heard him say anything like that to me in a while. But lately my favorite thing is when he is talking to our baby girl and he will say things like “yeah, mommy is pretty amazing isn’t she?” Even though he isn’t saying directly to me I know he means for me to hear it and it makes me feel loved and appreciated!
I’m really fond of hearing my husband say, “I brag about that to my friends” in reference to something I do well.
I feel pretty lucky to know my husband does a number of these things. He always calls me gorgeous, which I love. I actually does the dishes every night. That is a big bonus. I do wish he would surprise me more with taking me to dinner or just planning something. That would be really really great.
Al in all he has about 70% of this down pretty well.
