It’s Our Birthday

And We’ve Reaffirmed Our Commitment

I’ve been thinking about this post for a while, figuring out how best to celebrate this one year anniversary of Anonymous8.   We could set up fireworks, linkys to other posts, contests, and other things that I see around the blogosphere…

And then something happened earlier this week that made me take stock.

In my non-anonymous life, I experienced a life-changing event that all of a sudden made Anonymous8 irrelevant in terms of my future.  Yes.  Completely irrelevant. When I started this, worst case was it would hopefully do some good.  Best case?  It would help others and help put the kids through college.

Now, my reality has changed.  I could quit this blog today and it would be immaterial to my life.

But that’s not exactly true. I think that is the true test of your dedication.  If one of the incentives you had to do something disappears, would you still do it?

That is what I have been grappling with.  And this has been the perfect week to do this. You know, the reflecting that surrounds birthdays.

So, in looking back over the year, it is not the 172 posts we’ve published, the award as a top 10 marriage blog, or any of the other numerous accomplishments we have and have not earned.

It is what we’ve built, what we’ve learned, what we’ve laughed over, and the comments that show that our discussions have actually influenced lives, including mine.  Amazing, don’t you think?  And who knew that with a whole year of blogging about relationships and women stuff under our belt, we would finally get front page google standing for the word “manscaper?”

That’s what I love about this.  The surprises…

So, in celebration of our birthday, I choose to celebrate quietly, without fireworks.  With gratitude and peace and a renewed dedication to making year 2 even better than year 1.

Who knows what we’ll find when we open door 2?  It’s the adventure and discovery inherent in Anonymous8 that makes it so compelling.  It’s only the incentives for moving forward that have shifted.

Thank you. Really.

Sincerely yours,

Sarah Baron

Well, I’m selfishly glad you didn’t decide to quit the blog tomorrow. I’m enjoying it far too much! :)

Congratulations on a great year – I’ve just celebrated one myself – and looking forward to many many more.

Me too. I have very much enjoyed all your posts. The accolades are deserved, because your blog is wonderful. :)

Keep up the good work (even if you don’t have to).

Sarah, it sounds like you’ve been hit with something big. I’m sorry to hear that and hope you come out on the other side okay!

It’s good to hear that you plan to keep rolling. Don’t be afraid to park it for a while if the cons start outweighing the pros, though.

And while I’m not exactly the target audience, it’s true that this site gives me things to think about and apply in real life. I read the Bridges of Madison County post yesterday and it has left me thinking about whether I really know the difference between my wife feeling like a woman vs feeling like a wife. If we’re doing the marriage thing well, hopefully there’s lots of overlap! The mom vs woman thing I completely get, although I have to protest that many wives are responsible for keeping themselves in mommy mode at all times! Interesting discussions.
