Kidnapping Gone Good

Fun Tip Tuesdays – A Surprise Trip Away

Do I need a disclaimer on this one?  The ones from the lawyers that say that this is not really kidnapping by legal definitions and that this site bears no responsibilities for any misconception of the intent of this post, which is fun with your other.  Agreed upon fun. Surprise – yes. Against your will? No.  Okay, enough of the disclaimer.

This Fun Tip Tuesdays idea came from Jennifer Coe, a reader, in one of our responses to the greatest date night question.

This Fun Tip Tuesdays idea is GREAT!  And I feel it is our responsibility to share amazing ideas (as a matter of fact, I think my friends are becoming wary of me, because they are afraid that all of our discussions are going to end up in posts).

This one involves suspense, sneakiness, and subversion, all in the name of love.  It requires foresight, planning, and fate.  Of course, it is not REALLY kidnapping, because in the end, both parties agree to the adventure.

Here’s Jennifer’s story…

“My boyfriend and I had been dating for several months, and I decided we needed a weekend away.

I got the key to his apartment from his roommate when he was at work and packed weekend clothes and items I thought he would need. We made a date to go ‘night golfing’  on Friday night. When I went to pick him up, it was all I could do not to laugh at him running around the house trying to find the shorts he wanted to wear–which, of course, were packed and sitting in the trunk of my car.  We started driving and ‘somehow’ I missed the exit to go to the golf course. He started sputtering ‘uh, hun, I think we missed a turn.’ I pulled over to the side of the road and handed him a card that said ‘congrats, you have won an all expense paid vacation for the weekend.’ He read it twice and then just started laughing.  ’Let’s go’ was all he said.  He kicked off his shoes, pushed back his seat and started singing along with the radio.
I rented a house on the beach at Lake Delton in the Wisconsin Dells.  We spent the weekend playing sand volleyball, swimming, and doing all the goofy things you can do at the Dells. We ate enormous candy apples, went go-carting, on a helicopter ride, and out to dinner.  It was relaxing and fun.  The best part was getting to see him in a totally different light, out of our normal situation. I knew what he was like at work (that’s how we met), and out with friends, but having him all to myself and seeing him having fun was wonderful.  We ended up with sunburns and about 5 extra pounds apiece and some excellent memories. All of our family and friends know how I “kidnapped” him.

Now, 17 years, 2 kids, and 1 dog later, we still have a picture from that weekend on the shelf in our living room.”

Any other great “kidnapping” stories out there?

Love love love love love it! (Of course, the real trick is pulling off these things AFTER having the kids — still working on that scheme.)
